Biography

France Margaret Bélanger


France Margaret Bélanger is President of Sports & Entertainment of Groupe CH, which includes the Montreal Canadiens, the Laval Rocket, evenko, and L'Équipe Spectra, since 2020. She joined the organization in 2013 as Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer. Promoted to Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer in 2014, she became Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer in 2017, overseeing the commercial strategy of the hockey sector. In May 2020, she added the management of the entertainment sector to her role.

France Margaret is the first woman to join the executive committee of the Montreal Canadiens in the team's 104-year history and also, the first woman to become President of the organization. Since 2013, she is Alternate Governor of the NHL for the team, alongside Geoff Molson since 2013.

Before joining the organization, France Margaret was a business law partner at Stikeman Elliott, where she began her career in 1995. Specialized in mergers and acquisitions, she notably represented the interests of the Gillett Group in the sale of the Canadiens and the Bell Centre in 2009. She also represented the Saputo family's interests during the Montreal Impact's entry into Major League Soccer. France Margaret also developed an expertise in the aviation sector, representing, among others, the interests of ACE Aviation and Air Canada in numerous transactions.

Ms. Bélanger's work has been recognized by her industry peers on numerous occasions. She was awarded The Best Lawyer in Canada in 2013 and recognized as a leading lawyer in corporate and M&A by the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory in 2011, 2012, and 2013. She was also named One of Canada's 40 Rising Stars: Leading Lawyers Under 40 by Lexpert Magazine.

Admitted to the Quebec Bar in November 1995, France Margaret is a graduate of the Faculty of Law of the University of Ottawa. She holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the McGill-HEC Montréal EMBA program.

In December 2022, France Margaret received the Medal of the Quebec National Assembly. She is a recipient of the Order of Merit from the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Civil Law (2015), and of the Desautels Management Achievement Award from McGill University (2019). She is also an Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel of the Les Fusiliers Mont-Royal regiment.
